A Whisker Away is a Netflix Original movie that was released on June 18, 2020. It is TV-PG which means under 14 years of age kids can watch along with their parental guidance. It comes under the genre of Fantasy, Romance and Emotional.

A Whisker Away Summary:

A Whisker Away movie is about a middle school girl named ‘Miyo Sasaki’ who’s living with his step-mother and father because her real mother left Miyo when she was little kid.

Despite all the problems in her life, Miyo still lives her life smiling even though inside she’s always crying. But in all her downsides there is still hope from one boy ‘Kento Hinode’ whom she loves from school.

Miyo has the ability to transform into a cat anytime. In order to get closer to Kento, she turned into cat sometimes to have alone time with him being his lovely pet Taro. Kento has no clue about Miyo and her transformation abilities.

In human-self, Miyo never confessed how she actually felt due to fear of losing Kento forever. Everything was going well until one-day things between Miyo and Kento gets tense and she ends up making the worst decision of her life.

Now the BIG question is what decision did Miyo took and how it affects the story? I guess you will find that after watching the movie.

Miyo Sasaki: Miyo is the main protagonist of movie. She’s always full of energy and keeps on smiling all the time. She lives with her step-mom and father in new home. Miyo always becomes impatient whenever she meet her school crush Kento.

Kento Hinode: Kento is also the main protagonist of the movie. He lives with his mother, sister, and grandfather. His only dream is to become a great potter one day and continue their pottery business. But due to financial Family pressure, he can’t speak freely of his mind.

Cat Mask Seller: Mask Seller is the main villain of movie. He gives people masks which allows them to transform into cats. His face and talking style both looks very suspicious. Miyo also got her cat mask from him when she was kid.

Yoriko Fukase: Yoriko is one of the supporting cast members in the movie. She is the only Best friend of Miyo since childhood. Even though everyone thinks Miyo is overly weird but she supports her without caring about anybody.

Final Spoiler Free Review:

A Whisker Away is one of good romantic and emotional Story. In the movie most of focus is given to 2 important people: Miyo Sasaki and Kento Hinode. Almost half of the movie is about those adorable moments between Miyo as cat and Kento.

From Beginning of movie, it always felt like one sided love in which Miyo gave her best in order to get close to kento and he always ignored her. But in Kento’s defence he never thought about any plans to date anyone due to his own life struggles.

All other people also play a big role in the movie i.e Miyo’s parents which takes the story into more family drama. Miyo never got an opportunity to be adored like normal families. When she was kid her mother left her due to which his father married another woman. But deep in Miyo’s heart she never accepted her step-mother part of their family.

Miyo made a false opinion for her life in which she doesn’t want to live as a normal human being anymore because she thinks no one loves her anymore. Due to this reason, she got the cat transform mask from Cat Mask Seller. Miyo was always struggling to decide whether she stays Kento’s cat or human-self.

Cat Mask Seller played his role of being villain perfectly. During the movie his appearance is shown like a manipulative cat who has some really shady secrets. When Miyo was a kid she got her mask from cat mask seller in exchange of nothing. ‘Nothing’ is revealed later in movie.

When half of the movie is completed, then you will get to see the fantasy world of cats. Everyone in that fantasy world is drinking in pubs, eating from food stall and doing a lot of fun activities. Only cats can see and travel in their fantasy world.

Studio Colorido did a fantastic animation work in A Whisker Away. They played a major part in making it a success for Netflix.

Throughout the movie, calm and beautiful music is always played in the background. It really sets the mood for any romantic scenes between Miyo and Kento. To lift up emotional scenes impact heart touching music played a big role in achieving that task.
