Aniplex and Konami aided Gainax in the development of Gurren Lagann, which was initially revealed in July 2006. Konami director Koichi Natsume hinted about the possibility of several sequels to the franchise. Hiroyuki Imaishi, a devotee of the mecha genre who had previously done animation work for Neon Genesis Evangelion, directed the series. He had wanted to work in a mecha series since he started working.
Gurren Lagann, directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi and produced by Gainax, broadcast on TXN stations in Japan between April 1 and September 30, 2007. The anime consists of 27 episodes plus two specials: the uncensored version of the sixth episode and episode 5.5, which was included with the Nintendo DS game.
From July to September 2008, a subtitle-only version was published in three volumes, then from November 18, 2008, to May 5, 2009, an official English dub with the episodes gathered in three DVD sets was released. The show debuted on the Sci Fi Channel on July 28, 2008, as part of the Sci Fi Channel’s Ani-Monday anime block, with two episodes running each week.
Director Hiroyuki Imaishi formed Studio Trigger in response to the popularity of Gurren Lagann. The studio is seen as a successor to Gainax because of Gurren Lagann’s visual comedy and aesthetic. Shigeto Koyama, who worked on the Gurren Lagann design, went on to work on the concept design for Baymax in the 2014 Disney film Big Hero 6.
When Gurren Lagann was initially released, the studio was all set to develop sequels to season 1 but due to some reason that plan never got accomplished. Gurren Lagann was a great success for their publishers, yet it never got renewed for season 2. In year 2022 there is still no news regarding Gurren Lagann season 2.

Gurren Lagann Plot till Season 2:
Gurren Lagann is set in a future when the Spiral King, Lordgenome, rules the Earth and compels humanity to dwell in segregated underground settlements. These communities are cut off from the outside world and other villages, and they are constantly threatened by earthquakes. Select locals, known as diggers, are drafted to dig deeper into their dwellings.
Simon, a quiet young miner in Giha village who has been shunned by his friends, finds refuge in his best buddy, an older brother figure named Kamina, who is an eccentric delinquent. Simon is encouraged to join Kamina’s gang, Team Gurren, in order to help him realise his ambition of seeing the surface world.
Yoko informs Simon and Kamina that every day, civilians on the surface are assaulted by Gunmen flown by Beastmen, humanoid beings who serve as Lordgenome’s army. Kamina takes control of a Gunmen and renames it Gurren before joining it with Lagann to create the mecha Gurren Lagann. Other humans are inspired by their acts to take their own Gunmen and join Team Gurren, prompting Kamina to rename the group Team Dai-Gurren.
Over the following seven years, mankind prospers on the surface planet, with Simon and the rest of Team Dai-Gurren acting as the globe’s administration in Kamina City, its new capital. An extraterrestrial race known as the Anti-Spirals appears after the human population surpasses one million individuals. As part of their mission to wipe out all life on the planet, they have set the Moon on a crash path with the Earth.
Simon in Lagann eventually defeats the Anti-Spirals in a one-on-one Gunmen combat that spans the cosmos. Simon passes up his Core Drill to Gimmy and leaves his companions to wander the globe as a nameless wanderer for the rest of their lives, claiming that his destiny was only to “dig the tunnel to the future,” not to journey through it himself.
Who will be Cast in Gurren Lagann Season 2:
In future if we are ever going to get a season 2 for Gurren Lagann, then audience can see most of cast members from previous season. The story can be unique but main cast will be as follows:
Simon: Simon is the main character in the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann anime and manga series. He starts out as a little, humble, and lonely young child, but he matures into a powerful and well-liked adult. He was hailed as a legendary hero who surmounted insurmountable personal and universal difficulties and now stands eternally as a light for the benefit of all mankind and Spiral kind.
Simon has grown noticeably taller and has a very strong and tanned figure following the 20-year time jump in the epilogue. Due to not using his enormous ability for decades, his hair has grown shorter and is comparable to Kamina’s hairstyle, and his right eye has formed into a spiral.
Kamina: Kamina was the creator and initial leader of Team Gurren, a young man from Jeeha Village. Kamina’s father managed to reach the surface as a youngster, and while he wanted his son to accompany him, Kamina was too afraid of the unfamiliar world that awaited him, so his father let him stay behind, telling him that they’d meet again someday.
This is most likely what fueled Kamina’s will to succeed. Kamina thought he was old enough and began aiming for the surface years later.
Yoko Littner: The primary protagonist in the series is Yoko Littner. She is a fourteen-year-old girl from Littner, Jeeha’s adjacent hamlet, who was following the gunmen who crashed into Jeeha Village. She uses a variety of weapons, the most common of which being a long-range sniper rifle styled after the Barrett M82.
Unlike Simon and Kamina, Yoko Ono’s past is never fully exposed. What is known is that Yoko was among those who were forced to run to the surface when Littner Village was flooded with gas.
Nia Teppelin: Nia Teppelin is Lordgenome’s orphaned daughter. Antispiral created her as well, and she acts as the main messenger in the third act. She is Simon’s major love interest and marries him in the end. Nia had a happy childhood with her father prior to her introduction.
When Nia got too self-aware and questioned her father about her existence, he lured her into a pod and threw her into a canyon filled with the caskets of his previous children and mistresses, where she would be discovered by Simon.
Will Gurren Lagann have a Season 2?
